Dear Friends of New Docta,
Welcome to the VIII New Docta International Music Festival, Virtual Edition! With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year has brought us many unprecedented challenges to our health, to our communities, and to our way of life. As we try to adapt to these new realities, we find ourselves socially distanced, isolated in our homes and, evermore, behind our computer screens for school, meetings, social gatherings and entertainment. New Docta began eight years ago with a firm commitment to using the joys of live music to inspire and bring people together. For this year’s edition, while we cannot meet our thousands of friends in the usual concert halls, hospitals, classrooms, and stadiums, we still crave to connect with you and share beautiful moments together from our homes to yours. For our first ever virtual edition, the three of us are thrilled to present over 30 hours of online programming to take place from August 31th to September 6th, 2020. With a tantalizing menu of concerts, master classes, behind-the-scenes interviews, and fun, interactive children’s shows, there is, as always, something for everyone’s taste. Events will take place everyday at 11:00, 15:00, and 19:00 AST (-4 GMT) and will be livestreamed on New Docta’s Facebook and YouTube pages. At the heart of New Docta’s programming are our world-renowned guest artists. This year, joining the New Docta Artists are special guests connecting from Europe, North and South America including Isabel Leonard (mezzo-soprano), Anthony McGill (clarinet), Nicolas Dautricourt (violin), Brandon Ridenour (trumpet), Carlos Vargas (piano), Nilko Andreas (guitar), Nathan Schram (viola), and Pedro Giraudo (bass/composer/arranger). With too many accolades to list, this star-studded roster features top prize winners of international competitions, professors at the world’s elite conservatories, GRAMMY Award winners, and acclaimed recording artists for film and television. Students everywhere will benefit from their individual master classes, and all of our followers will be sure to enjoy their riveting performances in two online concerts. Adapting to the online format, New Docta will also premiere four episodes of a new children’s show entitled “Discover the Musician in You”. These online offerings will cater to children of all ages and feature segments that borrow from our wildly popular Schools to the Theater!, Music and Sports, and Music Heals programs. Entertaining and educational, the episodes will include sing-a-longs, musical journeys, cameo appearances from famous musicians and athletes, and heartwarming collaborations between international musicians and Argentinean arts groups. Rounding out our programming will be a series of chats and interviews with artists and industry-leading administrators. Have you ever wondered how arts organizations make the magic of concerts happen or, perhaps, what artists do to prepare for a performance? Be sure to check out our in-depth interview with Alex Sarian, President y Chief Executive Officer of Arts Commons, as well as behind-the-scene chats with our guest artists who will reveal their “secrets” from the green room. We cannot thank you enough for your interest in New Docta. While we might all remain physically distant this year, we, as co-executive directors, have embraced the challenges of this virtual format to continue to bring us all together through the joys of live music. We dream of that moment when we can all safely rejoin in one place to hear the laughter and applause, see the smiles on children’s faces, and feel the excitement of live performances. But in the meantime, we look forward to “seeing” you at our online events and reading your live comments, questions and curiosities on our social media channels. No matter where you are in the world, we are truly all in this together. Musically yours, Sami, Solange, and Yves |
